Feeding America & Local Food Banks
For more than 95 years, Hy-Vee has been committed to helping families in the Midwest access food. Recently, Hy-Vee elevated its efforts against hunger through several campaigns aimed at raising awareness and supporting local food banks.
In 2021, Hy-Vee started the Scan Out Hunger Campaign. By enabling customers to donate via an “H” QR code, the company raised nearly 10 million meals. In 2022, Hy-Vee launched Food Bank Fridays to replenish food banks, ultimately providing over 27 million meals. In 2023, Hy-Vee announced its largest goal to date: 100 million meals for families in need. Through the 100 Million Meals Challenge with Feeding America, Hy-Vee engaged customers, employees and partners to raise food and funds. Hy-Vee also has an annual partnership with Hormel Foods called “Hams for the Holidays,” which has distributed more than 40,000 hams to families in need, while its “Pack the Pantry” initiative collected more than 32,500 pounds of food in one week.
Hy-Vee received two national Halo Awards from Engage for Good in honor of the success of its 100 Million Meals Challenge in conjunction with Feeding America. The Halo Awards honor outstanding corporate initiatives happening across the U.S., as well as the partnerships established between businesses and nonprofits. In addition to winning a 2024 Gold Halo Award in the Best Consumer Donation Program category, Hy-Vee also won the Best of the Halo Award for the campaign's overall impact across the nation.
