Hy-Vee Supports Meals From The Heartland
September 1, 2010 | News & Press Releases
Hy-Vee is proud to join other businesses, schools, churches, organizations and individuals in supporting Meals from the Heartland, a non-profit organization that distributes meals to hungry people throughout the world.
Meals from the Heartland will hold its annual mass packaging event September 2-5 at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines. An estimated 15,000 volunteers will work to assemble 4 million meals that will be directed to Haiti, Jamaica, several African nations and other locations where hunger and starvation are widespread.
The event kicks off Wednesday, September 1 with the Meals from the Heartland Cup, sponsored by Hy-Vee. The Cup competition features 20 teams representing businesses and organizations that are participating in the Meals from the Heartland effort. Teams will race against each other to determine which team can package the most meals in five minutes. The winning team will be presented with the Meals from the Heartland Cup during a live segment on KCCI’s News Channel 8 broadcast at 6 p.m.
