Mattel Toys Recall

August 16, 2007 | News & Press Releases

Dear Retailer:

Mattel has determined that Sarge 2 ½ inch Die Cast Car Toys, recently manufactured at a specific contract manufacturer, involved paint containing lead. Due to the seriousness of this issue, we are asking that you quarantine all affected incoming product sold from May 2007 through August 2007 – date coded with the last three digits “7EA” - as well as begin pulling affected product off of your shelves. (The products affected by this recall are listed below.)

In addition, we are announcing a voluntary recall of products within each of the following categories with certain manufacture dates as will be set forth in the Joint Press Releases that will be issued on August 14, 2007. For Retailer convenience, we will accept return of all products listed below – regardless of the manufacture dates.

  • Batman Figures - Magna Battle Armor, Flight Wing, Secret ID, Flying Fox and One Piece Triple Slash Zolo Roronoa Figures
  • Barbie and Tanner “Scooper” Accessory
  • Doggie Day Care Toys
  • Polly Pocket

Tiny magnets inside these toys can fall out. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated.

We are currently working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to fast-track a recall and are finalizing the details of the public announcement, which we expect to make on Tuesday, August 14, 2007.

It is expected that the Consumer Product Safety Commission will be sending investigators to individual retail locations to ensure that these recalled products have been removed from the store shelves. We ask that you take all the necessary steps to pull all affected product from your retail store shelves immediately.

Additional information regarding Return Authorizations will be forthcoming. In the meantime, consistent with our values and acting with unwavering integrity, it is our goal to proceed responsibly, quickly and transparently in an effort to reduce the number of affected products in the supply chain and, ultimately, in the hands of the consumer.

Thank you in advance for working with us to do the right thing and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these recalls may cause you.

Sincerely,

Chris Schaden
