WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (May 23, 2019) — In response to tornado damage across Jefferson City on Wednesday evening, Hy-Vee, Inc. announced today that it is partnering with the American Red Cross to assist in recovery efforts after tornadoes caused excessive damage.
Hy-Vee began donating meals, snacks and beverages to impacted residents and emergency workers today and will continue its outreach throughout the duration of cleanup efforts. Hy-Vee’s outreach includes sending its Hy-Vee Healthy You Mobile Unit to Jefferson City to provide snacks and beverages to tornado victims as well as first responders. The unit will be stationed in impacted areas throughout the remainder of the week. In addition, Hy-Vee will be providing support to shelters in Eldon and Golden City, Missouri.
Starting Friday, the Jefferson City Hy-Vee parking lot will be set up as a staging area for people to drop off donations. Hy-Vee will accept the following: monetary donations for the American Red Cross, water and cleaning supplies.
“Our hearts go out to all of the families impacted by this natural disaster, as well as the first responders who are taking care of the Jefferson City community and surrounding areas,” said Todd Wagner, regional vice president of Hy-Vee’s southeast region. “We’ll continue working with emergency management teams, local officials and the American Red Cross to identify what needs Hy-Vee may be able to assist with. As this community begins their cleanup efforts, we want to do all that we can to help them recover.”
